Course Overview: Brown Deer Park Golf Course

Brown Deer Park Golf Course is a public course steeped in history. Designed by renowned architect Donald Ross in 1929, it has since become one of the premier golfing destinations in the Midwest. Known for its challenging layout and scenic views, the course has hosted numerous local and national events, including the PGA Tour’s U.S. Bank Championship for several years. One of the most memorable moments in the course’s history was when Tiger Woods made his PGA Tour debut at Brown Deer Park in 1996.

Tiger Woods entered the 1996 U.S. Bank Championship (then called the Greater Milwaukee Open) as a rookie, just months after turning professional. Although Woods was already a rising star from his college days at Stanford, this was his first-ever PGA Tour event. At just 20 years old, Woods wowed the crowd with his athleticism, distance, and composure. He was paired with some seasoned pros but quickly became the talk of the tournament.

In his first round, Woods shot a solid 70, which helped him make the cut and finish tied for 60th. While he didn’t win the event (that honor went to Steve Stricker), the tournament marked the beginning of what would become one of the most dominant careers in golf history. Tiger’s debut at Brown Deer Park is still remembered by fans as a milestone moment in his ascent to superstardom. It was at Brown Deer that many saw glimpses of the raw talent and competitive fire that would carry him to 15 major championships and 82 PGA Tour wins.

But it’s not just Tiger’s debut that made Brown Deer Park famous—it's also his hole-in-one on the 14th hole. During the 1996 event, Woods pulled off an incredible ace on the par-3 14th, stunning the crowd and adding to his growing legend. The 14th hole at Brown Deer is a challenging, elevated par-3, and Woods’ shot was a textbook example of his shot-making prowess. As you play the hole during the 2025 Cavie Cup, you’ll have the chance to try to match Tiger’s incredible achievement and put your own skills to the test!

The front nine features several doglegs and water hazards, while the back nine is known for its strategic approach shots, where players must carefully navigate around trees and sand traps. One of the signature holes at Brown Deer Park is hole #18 a long par 5 finishing at the clubhouse. The tee shot requires a drive to carry water. Your second shot will setup to attack the elevated green. Brown Deer Park’s blend of traditional and modern design, along with its serene setting, makes it a must-play for golfers in the Milwaukee area.
